Introduction & Problem Statement
The customer was needing to construct a working platform along the banks of the Saluda River in Columbia, SC to allow them to place their heavy equipment needed for construction for a short time and to be able to be easily removed upon completion. The river had an uneven base
due to some existing boulders and the USACE required all fill material for the working platform to be removed upon completion of the project.
The Solution
AquaRockBag® were able to be filled and staged for an extremely quick and easy installation considering the restrictive site access. Thanks to the attached lifting rings, the bags were easy to remove at the conclusion of the project. The various sizes of AquaRockBag® allowed the different sized bags to be placed in-between the boulders on the base of the river as well as being able to place smaller bags in gaps to fill in the voids allowing a flat and strong base to be constructed for the working platform to be placed.
Advantages
The use of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) in AquaRockBag® offers several advantages and is characterized by the following benefits:
- Excellent UV-resistance: HDPE is particularly resistant to UV radiation, which increases its durability and resistance in outdoor areas, especially when used in water for long periods.
- High tensile strength and tear resistance: The material is extremely resilient and can withstand heavy mechanical stresses, making it ideal for use in demanding environments such as harbors, rivers or coastlines.
- Resistance to chemicals: HDPE offers excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals that can be found in marine or industrial environments, making it a particularly robust choice.
- Long service life: The combination of material strength, UV and chemical resistance ensures that AquaRockBag® made of HDPE offers a certified service life of up to 100 years, which supports the sustainability of the solution.
